Working from home for a while now? This may be the most ideal time to set up your own home office. Setting up and designing your own space will make you look forward to spending your time there and will increase your productivity. Even though most might only have a compact space available, these tips will help you make the most of it, and set up your own customized workspace.
1. Select an ideal location
Everyone’s homes are different, but there will surely be an ideal location in every place. Make sure the place you select does not have any major distractions like a television, kitchen, or any other place where there will be too much sound. Preferably pick a corner near a window that offers a view. Who wouldn’t like a nice view of the space you’ll be spending most of your day at. If your home does not have space with a nice view, pick any compact corner and add something that you would like to see often beside it. Make sure the place you choose has good lighting and that there is a charging point available nearby so that charging your laptop and any other gadgets won’t be an issue.
2. Add plants
Add small sapling and plants to your workspace. This will not only give it a great look but adding plants can be refreshing and calming. Plants can help reduce stress and boosts happiness. Add plants that do not need much attention. You can add Aloe Vera, lucky bamboo, snake plant, ferns or a money plant. Plants also help boost productivity and keep you calm while working. This is sure to add a touch of greenery and calmness to your workspace.
3. Get Innovative with your desk
Not everyone may have a dedicated desk for working. If you don’t, pick any table that preferably has storage options, so you can store papers, markers and any other required supplies. If there is no movable table that you can use, a lot of people use their iron board as a work desk. Put a good looking cover up on it if using it, to make it look better. If you’re using a storage table, make sure you divide all different supplies in their allocated drawers.
4. Recycle boxes and mugs to store things
If you are unable to find a table with storage, or if you just want to add an aesthetic and customized touch to your workspace, you can do so by adding any old boxes and mugs as your storage for supplies. You can decorate and customize it as per your liking, and set it up on the table in an organized manner. Keep all handy stationery like extra papers, markers, pens, pins and whatever else you may need.
5. Add cushions
If you’re going to spend around 8 hours a day seated somewhere, use a comfortable chair and add a cushion for a better posture. The cushion will also make your work area look well designed while making sure you can comfortably work. Make sure your chair is of a good height for your hand to rest while working. You can also add cushions at one corner of your workspace table to give it an element of design.
6. Add a watch and calendar
Adding a clock or a watch to your work desk, will make it look more organized and more importantly, it will help you keep track of time easily. Add a calendar too where you can mark deadlines, and it will ensure you don’t lose track of days passing by. You can add a calendar and watch of a particular colour or theme, that matches the look and design of the workspace you want.
7. Add a Pin Board
Adding a muted toned pinboard to your workspace, so that anything you add to it will stand out. Here you can pin your to-do lists, important notes, motivating quotes and anything else you will like and need to view on a daily basis. Having a pinboard makes work life much more convenient and also fills in space and completes your design.
8. Add photos
Finish designing your workspace by adding photos of family, friends and pets. Having photos of things that are important to you, will increase your motivation and keep you happy. You can also use the pinboard to display photos or use a customized photo calendar. If you are using frames, match it to the overall look and design of your workspace.
So that was a list of things you can do to design your very own at home office! These tips not only make your workspace look good, but they also make it so much more convenient and motivating to work.
