Onam is the biggest and most important festival in the coastal state of Kerala. Celebrated with much pomp and grandeur by Malayalis in and outside of Kerala, Onam is the annual harvest festival of the state. This is one festival where religion takes a backseat and people from all religions and castes get together to celebrate Onam considering it as a cultural festival. Onam very well portrays the rich tradition and diverse culture of the state of Kerala.
Onam is the official state festival of Kerala and is celebrated with great enthusiasm for 10 days. The celebrations for Onam are widespread and include Boat Races(Vallam Kali), Floral Rangoli(Pookkalam), Tiger Dances(Pulikali), Martial Arts(Onathallu), and many other forms of entertainment and activities. Another popular ritual during Onam is the preparation of Onam Sadya which is a traditional yummy feast served on banana leaves.
Zolo, like all other festivals, celebrated Onam by asking its employees to prepare the Pookkalam or the Floral Rangoli. Most of the employees came in traditional wear which helped to set the mood for the event. The event was conducted on every floor and the best floral design was to be given some goodies. Employees of respective floors got together to prepare beautiful floral rangolis with the use of just flowers and leaves. Each floor prepared some beautiful and thoughtful rangolis which made it difficult for the judges to select the best. In the end, the 3rd floor’s innovative Pookkalam was chosen as the best. The 3rd-floor team made the rangoli to resemble a bulb that symbolized an idea and all the technologies being used at Zolo. Sweets were distributed to the winning team with a lot of happy faces all around. Some pictures from the Onam celebrations below.
