1. Toiletries

Toiletries are one of the most essential things for hostel life. Just imagine you are taking a bath and realize you have forgotten the soap at home! To prevent such a situation, pack your toiletries before anything else.

Remember that you might have to share your bathroom with many other people. So, it’s always better to keep your own things. No one would like to share their stuff with you every day.

Here are some toilet essentials you must keep:

• Toothbrush and toothpaste 
• Soap or shower gel
• Shampoo
• Towel
• Comb 

Don’t forget your talcum powder and perfume, especially during summer. You don’t want to stink when you sweat in buckets! 

2. Extension Board

Your hostel room will have only one plug point. Well, there might be two if you are lucky enough. But what if you share the room with two other people?

It’s always better to carry your extension board. That will prevent fights over who will charge their phones or laptops first.

So, don’t forget the extension cord while packing the essential things for hostel life.

3. Earphones and Earplugs

Say you feel like binge-watching your favorite show. But your roommate is studying for their exam. Just plug in your earphones and enjoy the show without disturbing them.

Even if you have to listen to a personal voice message, your earphones will come in handy.

4. Laundry detergent

Not all hostels provide laundry facilities. That means you have to wash your own clothes. So it’s a good idea to pack your washing powder or detergent before moving into a hostel.

5. First-aid Kit

Emergencies don’t come informed. So, it’s better to stay prepared. Don’t miss the first aid box in your hostel essentials list.

Cuts and wounds are part of our lives. Having a band-aid and antiseptic will come in handy. You might also get a terrible headache or stomach pain. So, keep some painkillers in your first aid kit too.

Having a first aid box will also let you help your roommates out during an emergency.

6. Sheets and Blankets

Bedding is one of the most essential things needed in hostel. Though your hostel will provide sheets, it’s better to carry your own if you are obsessed with cleanliness. 

You will also need an extra sheet to cover yourself if the weather is cool at night. Don’t forget your blanket if you are moving to North India. You will need it during winters.

7. Slippers or Flip Flops

Walking barefoot in a shared bathroom or around your hostel is not a good idea. You never know if the other people are hygienic enough.

You can pack a normal pair of slippers for walking indoors. However, flip-flops will give you the feel of a vacation. Pair them with your shorts and comfortable tees, and you will feel you are walking on a beach!

8. Powerbank

Imagine there is a power cut, and your phone just died. People at home will worry about you, and you won’t be able to contact them. Having a power bank saves you from such situations.

It’s a good idea to pack an extra power bank. You never know if one stops working. Your roommates may also borrow yours at times.

9. Your hobby equipment

All work and no hobbies make everyone dull. So you must not exclude your ukulele or those unread story books from your hostel essentials list.
